Another outing in the Charlie Horowitz series, ‘All out life’, finds Charlie during his days in hell, interning with Lucifer. There is a lot underway at the moment, with Lucifer’s children conniving to find the scroll that gives the bearer dominion over all seven realms of hell, if he/she so desires; and his daughter’s persona as ‘the midnight scorpion’ striking terror in the hearts of anyone misfortunate enough to cross her path. When lucifer goes missing, kidnapped, the seven lords of hell, hold a parley to evaluate the situation, Charlie reminds them during the meeting about the scroll and its secrets and suggests that it is the prize the kidnappers are after. In another part of hell, the children of the seven lords, forming the resistance, get wind of the game afoot and decide to pitch in their claims to seize power and build the kingdom of their choice.

‘Charlie Horowitz: All out life’ is a Narrative script from screenwriter Dillon Fuhrman. ‘All out life’ is an intriguing chapter, from the Charlie Horowitz series, that plays out in hell. The writer keeps the pace of storytelling racy, even as he introduces numerous new characters simultaneously in some scenes. Not for a moment does the pace slacken nor can we ignore the suspense that forever hangs heavy in the air. For a story set out of this world, the author uses concepts from pop culture to add a layer of humour to the narrative. This strain of humour is strengthened by the fact that the characters in hell are oblivious to these references.  The author creates a delightful, fantastical world; complete with shape-shifting demons; magical superpowers, fast cars and chase sequences, large armies with armour and weaponry that span across millennia, picking and choosing the most flashy and deadly weapons from a thousand years of history. And, in the final battle, it is the human spirit that triumphs over the demonic forces from hell.

‘Charlie Horowitz: All out life’ is a gripping fantasy of Charlie’s adventures in hell with Lucifer, before he sets back on his journey to earth to avenge his own murder. The story tells us of the human qualities that make the human spirit superior to souls of the darker forces and keeps him safe from the powers of darkness. During his short stay, Charlie with his human temperament saves hell from impending doom and in the process makes a few powerful enemies who follow him back to earth, waiting for him to make that final kill before they begin the next round of the games.
