Two childhood friends, who having lived through a life of discontents and setbacks, find each other again after many long years. When they sit together for a long talk about how life has treated them over the years, they discover they were much more than friends. ‘True Love’ is a long conversation between two childhood friends broken down over two meetings where they talk about their lives, relationships, and heartbreaks. Having known each other since the first day of school, the two realize they have always been looking out for each other since that day. As time drives them apart, each pursuing their goal, they drift apart, losing contact. But, as part of the grand design, they come together again when they need one another the most, at the lowest point in their life. What had transpired in their lives that they needed each other and how did they come back together again? Do they realize they are much more than friends and take steps to set things right?
‘True Love’ is a short script by Tiffany Colling. Colling tells the story of a man and a woman who have been friends since their first day at school. In their conversation over a lunch they talk about their lives and the old times. This conversation tells us everything we need to know about how they drifted apart, had some unhappy relationships and came back to one another. And when this conversation is interrupted by a prior engagement, Colling reschedules the remaining part of the story to dinnertime. The fluid storytelling, the grounded characters and relatable situations in the life of the two make this story relatable and convincing. Maybe it is because of this nature of the story that she refuses to name her protagonists the entire time.
‘True Love’ is an ode to love. It may take you years to find ‘true love’, but when you find it, you realize it has been around you all the time and that you just had to look to have found it earlier.
