Dancing With Plato

Philosophy professor Bryan Clark takes up a teaching position at the Fresno State University, addedly to benefit from being close to his biological parents. He hopes to re-establish lost relationships with family. At the University he meets Celany, a young student of dance, who is in his class for fulfilling a GE requirement. The two continue to see more of each other in the following days, and they discover a hidden bond between them they cannot ignore. But, that Celany is a student, prevents Bryan from reaching out to her with his true feelings. As the tension between the two continues to simmer, Celany is offered the opportunity at a choreography intensive in France. Hesitant at first, Celany finally gives it a shot and ends up grabbing the opportunity with her talent and hard work. Brayan puts on a strong front when he learns Celany is moving away and wishes her all the best. Life moves forward for both, and they eventually find other partners. But when Celany returns to the University as a guest artist for an upcoming concert, with her boyfriend in tow, old sparks are rekindled. How do they accept the situation of the other having moved on with their lives? Can they find their true calling, overlooking the rites of society that bind them down? Can they recognize true love in all the noise?

‘Dancing with Plato’ is a feature length script by writer Nahyr Galaz Ruiz. Nahyr creates a world inside an idyllic university campus, where a smart young professor finds his soulmate in a fiery dance student. Nahyr creates a romantic corner where the two nurture their relationship over mellow meetings and petty differences. She builds her characters in depth, and at leisure, giving the audience enough time to appreciate, empathize, and fall in love with her characters. Garnished with a clutch of adorable supporting characters who effortlessly and covertly move the plot forward, the world of Celany and Bryan is always bathed in the dreamy, warm light of her dance performances.

‘Dancing with Plato’ intertwines the philosophy of Plato about the role of one’s feelings in decision making to the relationship between a professor and a student discovering itself once they decide to hand over the reins of their life to their feelings.
