Humanity is facing an existential crisis. The world is infested by zombies who are out to destroy the human race. Four friends, cut off from the rest of humanity, must gear up to meet the challenges that come their way while trying to survive the apocalypse and rebuild the world. But while grappling with this existential crisis, they have singular problems of their own for which they strive to find answers for. While Kurt is excited about the opportunities that will open up when he has to repopulate the world with Katie, Michael is worried about losing his fiancé Katie to Kurt. He then announces that he will contribute to the human genetic pool, in the second generation, when Kurt and Katie’s children come of age.
‘The Axe and the Iron’ is a Narrative Short from Director Mathew Roseman. The film looks at an apocalyptical situation facing the world in a lighter vein while exploring the comic possibilities that arise when a group of friends resigns to the fact that they are the last of the humans and that it falls upon them to rebuild the human race. They go even as far as discussing the right mix of brains and muscle that the human race must inherit in their genes for society to progress.
‘The Axe and the Iron’ is reminiscent of the current pandemic situation in the world where each one of us lives in mortal fear of being infected. We are quick to disown loved ones and friends once we suspect them of infection. The film recreates this situation in a dramatized setting where zombies are out to destroy the human race. Fighting the enemy with the last of their weapons, the axe and the iron, the group of friends finally arrive at a plan that will see them through.
